The SMA Sunny Tripower Hybrid X 20 opens the 70 series and is designed for installers building larger hybrid systems: multi-family housing, agricultural buildings, offices and small commercial sites with battery storage. It provides 20 kW of nominal power and 20 kVA of apparent power at up to 97.7% efficiency, and accepts as much as 30 kWp on the DC side. Four independent MPP trackers, each with two string inputs, handle up to 32 A per tracker (45 A Isc) and operate from 300 to 850 V — enough to spread a large array across several orientations, roof faces or shading zones without compromising yield. Paired with SMA high-voltage batteries, it maximises self-consumption and reduces peak demand, while the optional SMA Backup solution provides whole-building backup power when the grid fails. Up to five hybrid inverters can be operated in parallel, and the integrated System Manager supervises up to 10 subordinate devices, so no separate controller is needed. At 780 × 270 × 618 mm and 45 kg the unit remains manageable for two installers, mounts on a wall in an IP65 enclosure and is commissioned in about five minutes with the SMA 360° app. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are standard, 4G optional. With a 5 + 5 year manufacturer warranty, it is a high-performance and future-proof platform for demanding hybrid projects.
