The SMA Storage M BMS Unit is the control head of every SMA Storage M high-voltage battery tower. It is the component that turns a stack of Storage M Battery Modules into a managed, inverter-ready storage system, and it is required in every configuration. The unit continuously monitors cell voltages, currents and temperatures, balances the modules, applies the protection thresholds and handles communication with the hybrid inverter. It supports towers of 3 to 12 battery modules, which corresponds to usable capacities from 12.28 kWh up to 49.12 kWh, and it lets an existing installation be expanded within two years of commissioning. Installation is quick: the BMS Unit forms the base of the tower and the modules stack onto it mechanically, without any inter-module cabling to prepare on site. Natural cooling means no fans and no maintenance schedule, and the LED status display gives a direct read-out of state of charge and system status. With IP66 protection the unit is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation. It measures 530 × 405 × 140 mm, weighs 13 kg and works with the SMA Sunny Tripower Hybrid X and Sunny Boy Smart Energy hybrid inverters.
